Who are LinkAges?
LinkAges is a student-led group which supports students to volunteer to fight loneliness in Oxford's older community. Helping out is great fun!
This semester you can sign-up to help in one or more of our three LinkAges groups:
helping run activity sessions at Townsend House Care Home on Saturday or Sunday mornings 11-12 previous activities have included board games, movies and nail painting
helping run IT help classes for older people in Blackbird Leys Community Centre Wednesdays 2-4pm these will run October 25th - November 22nd
and helping out with activities (such as puzzles, listening to music) for people with Dementia, and their families Mondays and Tuesdays, 10-11.30 or 13.45 onwards. Stay for as long or little as you'd like! St Margaret’s Institute, 30 Polstead Road, Oxford, OX2 6TN.
All of these venues are easy to get to on the free U1 bus route and most volunteers do one session on a day in a week - but even if you can only come for one week you are most welcome!
All volunteering will be starting in October to give you time to settle into the new year 😊
In Oxford, elderly people feeling lonely and isolated is common. Many have partners who have passed away, or families who no longer live nearby. Over half of all old people say the television is their main form of company.
Regularly socialising with students like us helps to fight these feelings of loneliness!
